Nobody should leave Turkey without a carpet. You should be able to find something that suits your taste and your budget but it can be an intimidating experience. You wont find many carpet shops listed on these pages because of the frequent hard sell tactics that it's all to easy to encounter, especially in areas where tourism has developed. It's a pleasure however to be able to tell you about shops like Karavan Art. I only entered Tamer and Helen Tikan's shop because nobody hassled me. What I found was an environment where it was easy to feel comfortable.
Karavan believe that an informed customer is a happy customer so Tamer will happily answer any questions you may have about the fine 'pieces' he has on display. He tries to cater to all pockets and has a range of carpets (Hali and Kilim) covering the last century of textile production in Turkey and surrounding areas. Karavan Art was established in Hisaronu 5 years ago and Tamer travels Turkey in the winter to find naturally dyed carpet. He admits that this is getting harder as the demands placed on the industry result in more mass production and the unusual tribal designs become rarer. Karavan has a sister shop in Istanbul (specializing in antique Turcoman and new, root dyed kilims and carpets) and between them they have experience in shipping and freighting carpets to all corners of the world.
