The ABI 3 day blue cruise is really rather nice. Turks have been enjoying the delights of the 'Mavi Yol' or Blue Road for a couple of generations now and the established format is simplicity itself. Get a bunch of like minded people together and charter a Gulet, a wooden sailing boat, for a week or two. Then you just cruise, the coast between Bodrum and Antalya is the favorite location and, anchoring in secluded bays or the numerous coastal towns and villages for the night, your captain is your guide.
Not all of us have the time or the money to undertake a cruise on that scale so something like the ABI 3 day cruise is a great substitute. You can book as an individual or as a small group and its a great way to begin or end your time in Turkey. Leaving Kalkan on a Sunday morning and returning on Tuesday evening you'll take in Kekova, Kas and Kastellorizo. The trip is all inclusive with the exception of drinks and gratuities for the crew. Here's a brief rundown of the programme.
| 3 Day Blue Cruise |
| Day 1 |
The morning is spent cruising towards Kekova with a stop or two for swimming, snorkelling and lunch on the way. Highlights of the day include the fortified village of Kale (ancient Simena) one of three ancient Lycian sites you'll see during the day. The boat passes over the sunken remains of harbours and buildings before reaching Ucagiz a small fishing village and your port for the night.
| Day 2 |
The second day is dedicated to the small Greek island of Kastellorizo and, after breakfast on board you'll head to Kas to complete passport formalities. One more stop on the way to swim in one of the area's remarkable blue caves and you'll be in Kastellorizo after lunch. A guided tour of the island's port will be followed by an evening meal at Sava's taverna, an authentic taste of Greek hospitality that will surely endear the little island to you.
| Day 3 |
Back to Kastellorizo to explore the island's interior. After a tour of the Ethnography museum your bus will take you up to the central plateau where you'll find Roman cisterns, Greek orthodox monasteries and more evidence of the island's convoluted history.
