One of the major attractions of this region of Turkey is the richness of ancient sites here. The sheer number of places of archaeological interest on or near the Mediterranean coast can be overwhelming but there's something here for everybody, whether you're a casual visitor or a informed expert with a specific interest in the region.

There are several bases from which to explore ancient Lycia and Kalkan features prominently amongst them. Situated within easy reach of the Xanthos valley but close enough to Antalya to make Myra, Phaselis, Olympos and Termessos easily reachable. ABI travel have a variety of destinations on their roster and are particularly keen to run tour programmes for groups with a special interest in the archaeology of the area. Ancient Sites - in no particular order
Phaselis		Rhodian Foundation in a lovely setting on the coast near Antalya. Lycian for a while and Alexander the Great passed through.
Olympos		Lycian city in charmingly overgrown coastal valley. Very nice.
Lemyra		One time capital of Lycia, plenty to see and another nice location.
Arycanda		Possible pre-Greek settlement built on terraces cut into the dramatic hills, again with lots to see.
Xanthos		Dramatic setting and source of a couple of nice pieces now in the British Museum.
Letoon		Three temples and a theatre here, spiritual centre of Lycia.
Patara		Visited as much for its beach as for the fine buildings.
Fethiye		Little of ancient Telmessos has survived but there are some interesting tombs perched high above the modern town.
Phaselis		Rhodian Foundation in a lovely setting on the coast near Antalya. Lycian for a while and Alexander the Great passed through.
Pinara		Spectacular setting for this seldom visited but very rewarding site.
Tlos		Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Medieval structures compete for your attention high up above the Xanthos valley.
Myra		Rock cut tombs and a splendid theatre here. A very impressive site.
Simena		Chief attraction of the 3 cities clustered around Kekova island.
Pamukkale		Roman Hieropolis and the amazing natural formations of Pamukkale.
Aphrodisias		A trip inland is well worth it just to see the stadium of this city, the rest of the site is pretty good as well.
Termessos		Mountain top location guarantees a spectacular day.
