Very old potCatalhuyuk is often cited as the earliest known sizeable human habitation. The preservation of artifacts and, to some extent, the environment of a culture of this age has stimulated much discussion and interest across many different interest groups. The Museum of Anatolian Civilization has a very good Catalhuyuk exhibition but new finds are emerging all the time and each item contributes to the discussion as to what was going on almost 10,000 years ago.

Catalhoyuk is situated just to the South east of Konya on this map. This means its fairly accessible from Ankara, Cappadocia and the central Mediterranean coast. It is not a typical daytrip destination and you are unlikely to find tour operators covering it at all. If this part of history interests you and you would like to see an archeological team at work, then hire a car and go see.
