Accommodation in Kalkan available through the Mediterranean Collection Guide |
||||||
The delights of the Xanthos valley (which we're always raving about) are 20 minutes away to the west and these include the 15km of sand at Patara as well as the Lycian ruins scattered between Tlos and the coast. If you're after activity type stuff then canoeing, trekking, diving, boat trips and some other bits and pieces can all be arranged. The town itself is centered around the little harbour, where the fish comes ashore in the morning and the boats leave for the beaches and bays with their load of snorkel equipped day trippers. There are also opportunities to take 2 or 3 day cruises from Kalkan, giving you the chance to experience a night or two on a boat without having to fork out for a private charter. Back from the harbour is an old town, bazar area where you'll find restuarants and carpet shops, as well as places to buy the essential sun block and cold drinks. There's no shortage of accommodation in around the harbour and a little further afield, rooms are available in most price categories ranging from simple pansiyons to the more upmarket Patara Prince and Kalkan Regency. Kalkan lacks sandy beaches in the village itself but with Patara 15 minutes away and regular service boats to the two nearest beaches you won't have difficulty finding your place in the sun. If you have any questions about Kalkan and things you can do here we recommend that you contact the experts, ABI Travel.
Kalkan is accessible by bus from most places, if you're flying into Dalaman or Antalya then you can either make your own way or arrange for a transfer with a tour operator. For either airport we recommend ABI travel who will pick you up in an air conditioned minibus and drive you to your hotel. HiTiT Home | West Med. | Fethiye | Oludeniz |
