Hitit in Turkey
Getting There
Uchisar Castle

It really does look like thisGetting to Cappadocia is not difficult. If you're in Ankara then it's a 4 hour bus or car trip to Nevsehir and then a half hour more to the base of your choice. Trips up from the coast can be made independently or with the help of tour companies. Regular buses run from just about everywhere and the further east along the coast you are the easier the trip is.

Once there most of the distances involved are small. Cappy is a great area to hike in and you can take in just about everything (with the exception of Ilhara) if you base yourself somewhere central and give it about a week. The spring and autumn are best if you find extreme heat oppressive but many people visit in the winter to see the snow covered landscape.

Tour operators have found that flexibilty is appreciated and you can join day trips as an individual or group to almost anywhere in the region. Some companies will be happy to drop you somewhere (like Ilhara) and may even pick you up a couple of days later. If you're on your own or travelling with a small group you might consider hiring a taxi driver for the day. This can be a cheaper alternative to car hire if you want a degree of independence and don't have the time or the inclination to walk everywhere.

Other possible means of transport include pony trekking (Cappadocia - land of beautiful horses) and cycling. Bike hire is increasingly popular and if you can make it down the hill into Urgup then you've passed your cycling proficiency test. Basically the infrastructure exists to improvise and your only limit will be your budget.
